NEXT GENERATION OF SILVER® FAQ
No, it works on a variety of metals, with silverplate being the most common choice.
No, there’s no need to polish your silver. Just bring or send in your pieces as they are.
We currently offer 50+ colors to choose from.
The most popular color is our FDA food-safe white, which is ideal for food-related pieces, as food always looks great on a white background. FDA food-safe black is also a popular option, and both are single food-safe powders. Other top choices include True Blue, Orange Crush, Toxic, and Bubblegum. Additionally, we offer a food-safe clear coating for an extra fee, which can be applied to all colors. This coating gives a shiny finish and may slightly alter the appearance of colors that typically have a matte finish.
The colors aren’t applied using a paint solution. Instead, a color powder is sprayed onto the pieces and then baked. We don’t dip the pieces, as that would cause drips and an uneven finish. Our process involves hanging the pieces, ensuring full coverage inside and out, front to back.
The finish is highly durable and suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. It’s resistant to heat, cold, and water (if used as a vase). However, it’s not microwave-safe and should not be used in the oven or freezer. While these pieces are durable and scratch-resistant, they are not indestructible. If the surface becomes chipped, it should no longer be used for food.
To preserve the finish, we recommend hand washing with a mild dish soap and hand drying. Click here for more care details.
While the color can be removed, we don’t recommend doing so. Stripping the coating could compromise the integrity of the original piece(s). We take the time to go over color choices and help determine which color will best suit the piece.
Common pieces include pitchers, teapots, trays, champagne chillers, catchalls, trophies, and cream and sugar sets. We’ve done just about everything—from a toilet flush to someone’s great-great-grandmother’s coffee/tea service.
Pieces that include glass, mirror, or wood, as well as candlesticks with a capped and/or weighted bottom, are not ideal candidates for our process. Feel free to call us or send a photo of the piece for evaluation.
Our pieces are completed in batches, and the process is labor-intensive, requiring significant time. The typical turnaround is 6-8 weeks from drop-off to pick-up.
